History Of Chelsea FC Stadium
- The Stamford Bridge ground is one of the oldest sports grounds in England which was constructed back in 1877. Till 1094, the Stamford Bridge ground was used for private affairs of the Victorian sports pursuits by the London Athletic Club, where they had meetings about athletics.
- It was in 1905 when Mr. Henry Augustus (Gus) Mears and his brother Mr. Joseph T Mears got the lease of the stadium. The brothers wanted to host high-profile and professional football games in this stadium, hence, they signed the lease. Football was new during that time but was gaining popularity rapidly not only in England but in all midlands, especially in the capital city of London.
- The ground was first offered to the Fulham Football Club, but they could not afford to buy the stadium due to some financial constraints. So, to give a competition to the Fulham Football Club, the Mears brothers decided to take ownership of the Stamford Bridge Stadium and launch their own football club known as the Chelsea Football Club. Since 1905, the stadium has undergone a lot of changes, the major one being the renovation in the 1990s when the stadium was converted into an all-seater stadium.
